The Bindermeyer Theory - staged at the BITS Pilani Audi, September 27, 2008

The Bindermeyer Theory was staged at the BITS Pilani Central Auditorium on Saturday, the 27th of September, 2008. The play was directed by me and the production was managed by Mugdha. The play was about an hour long and was quite well-appreciated by the audience. The stage, a contemporary coffee shop setting, was an instant hit with the audience. Kudos to Prod for the fantastic show! Also, this time, there were a number of first-timers in the Cast. Looks like the club has a nice pool of talent now!

I will post snaps of the play as soon as I get my hands on them.

Sherlock Holmes

Hey everybody... I happened to come across a bunch of plays based on the character of Sherlock Holmes. They're by various writers including Doyle.

Another play

I came across this play while browsing and I really liked it a lot - give it a once-over. I think many of you will like it. It's got a couple of kid roles; I hope you guys can give me some help in adapting that or working it out.

The play's This Blood's for You by David Christner.

Another Play

I read an India Today article about a new Karnad play called Wedding Album. It's originally in Konkani but has been translated into English and has been staged at Delhi and Bangalore recently. It's about a South Indian family preparing for a wedding. If any of you guys come across it or know of any way to access a script copy, it would very helpful. Ping back as comments. Also when you comment, let me know your ID's so that I can add you on the contributors' list.

One more play

Bhargav informed me about this play The Zoo Story by Edward Albee - check it out via the link and comment. It's a 45 minute to 1 hour play. It could work for Oasis or as an LTC play.

Novels adaptable into plays

There are a couple of novels that could be adapted into plays - Einstein's Dreams and Time's Arrow - or The Nature of the Offence. Both deal with time warps and chronological anomalies. Please post if any of you can get your hands on an online copy or the books themselves. Follow the links to read the Wiki synopses.

Plays checked out

I've gone through three plays - Arms and the Man by George Bernard Shaw, Happenstance by Scott Sickles and The Bindermeyer Theory by Nicholas Wardigo. Follow the links to read the plays online/download them and comment on whether they would be suitable for staging next semester. I'm also looking for this play called Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Lee - it's based on the Scopes trial and is a courtroom drama pitting science and evolution against traditionalism and the theory of intelligent design. If someone knows of a copy of this play available freely on the Internet or can pick up a copy of the play somewhere, let me know.

Ahem!

First things first; plays that you could attempt through the semester; happened to watch this British movie called "Death at a Funeral" recently and I just felt that it would be awesome if we could get that made into a play; with oodles of changes here and there, of course. But it'd be like a perfect full length comedy if you guys could attempt it. Do try getting hold of a DVD some place or downloading it.
Then of course, there's this whole list of good plays that you guys could work on; but considering the rather drastic change in the sort of people that'd be watching the ones you do, I shut up. :P
And talking of plays watched through summer; don't even get me started on this horrid horrid reproduction of Arthur Miller's "Death of A Salesman" by this randomest troupe at Rangashankara recently. They murdered it. It was gory. Amen.
Lemme know if you guys need scripts; oodles up my sleeve.
Cheers,
Arun

Curtain Raiser

OK - following on Pawas' colorful welcome...

Hi all, this blog is a sort of scratch pad for all clubbers (past and present) to note down anything that might contribute to the club. Let's start off with reporting on the plays you may come across this summer. Please post a short review of the play and whether it's reproducible on the BITS stage. If so, give in a few pointers too on how we could stage it.

In other news, I'm searching for a play to direct as the main semester production next semester. So post in possible plays - and also suggestions as to what to do and what not to do!
Remember, the play you suggest needs to have the Audi in mind for size, shape, visibility and elevation. Any innovation you suggest is always welcome.

Please popularize this among clubbers and send in their email addresses so that one of the present managers can add them as contributors.

Cheers!
